Discipline
in Student’s Life

Discipline is known as a
set of rules that help to follow system. It is much contextual as it varies
according to the system of the place, organization, society, culture, and so
on. It maintain system if a workplace so that we can get the better outcome
from human force. It is known as the ornament of any person that reflects
his/her behavior that helps a person to be established in the society or in
their workplace. So discipline is too much important for any person to be
successful in their life.
Mainly, we teach
students about need of discipline in their life which they should have learnt
from their prime age. They should follow the system which is established in
school or in home. When they expose to the society, they should be able to
carry such behaviours to the society so that s/he can be a responsible citizen
of the nation. The students should follow or obey their teachers; they should
love to the juniors and respect their seniors; they should be example among
friends; they should do their classwork and homework promptly; they should read
well so that they can get good marks in the examination; and they should
respect their parents and so on. The
above things would determine their future life whether they are going to be
successful or not.
In other words,
discipline is the opposite word of undisciplined. In the context of
undisciplined, people don’t have system. They don’t follow the rules of the
organization or the society and be odd. S/he hasn’t obeyed their elders nor do they
express their love to juniors. If it is student, s/he doesn’t follow the rules
of the school or s/he has done whatever s/he likes. S/he doesn’t obey her/his teachers
rather s/he takes teachers as enemy. They have problem of doing classwork and
homework. Ultimately, it will disturb others and the person is excluded from
the system.
I am going to talk
about the discipline of the children in school level. Mostly the students of
nine and ten have got problem of discipline in schools. According to the
Nepalese system of education class nine and ten would be regarded as secondary
level. The children would also enter into their mid-teenage. They have been
struggling to be independent from the system of schools and home. They have understood
some more from their reading which makes them more revolutionary. So they think
to be free from the system and they think to establish a different system which
would fit to them. They have even followed the popular culture which they have
seen on television, magazines and in social media. So their age is transitional
age and they have started to violate the rules along with their independent
feelings.
One of the students of
class ten just decided not to read. He didn’t like to come to school. He had
performed weak in first terminal examination and the parents and teachers criticized
and rebuked him. When asked about the cause of admonition, he told that his
mother scolded him so that he didn’t have interest to read. I asked him what he
thought in his life. He replied that he wanted to work but he didn’t mention
the work.
When I asked about the
pinching incident he stated that his mother scolded him in class eight. He also
reported that it was the month of Poush (December/ January). When asked further
he couldn’t say the matter which made him inspire to go out of the school. I
talked with him more than 45 minutes emphasizing the importance of education.
He didn’t accept it rather expressed his disinterest to read.
The above condition
reflects the common student problem in these days. The children have so much
courage that they even challenge the decision of their home and school. They
seem revolutionary and they proceed ahead ignoring their life. Discipline
reflects the character of any person. It helps to form their character which
would fit to the society. The main aim of discipline is to make person improve
his/her habits. If they can’t improve their habits they will fall into bad
company. Accordingly they would follow the wrong path in their life which could
damage their career. So the character improvement seems quite difficult
discourse in our context.
The person who has
followed ethics would be disciplined. S/he should be ethical to be a right
person in their life. Man is a social animal and s/he should be morally right
to lead the society. They have been evaluated along with the quality what they
have got. If they are ethically right, they will be praised in the society;
neither will they be disrespected from the society. Finally, the motto of discipline
is to make man more ethical along with the rules and system of the society who
could contribute for the right approach.
