I’ll
work from the day after tomorrow….

One of the known
persons is residing beside my room whom I have known for two one year. He is a
simple man and his family background is also belongs to lower middle class. He
is from Eastern Hilly region of Nepal and I am Western Hilly region of Nepal.
He often addresses me as ‘sir’ and I address him by his first name ‘R….”.
He is a man of humor or
he laughs before he speaks or he has no conspiracy in his heart and mind as I can
realize. He hasn’t studied much rather he has been planning to go abroad again.
He went abroad two years before; unfortunately he returned back due to his
chest problem. I guess that he is a man of around 25 with his strong physique
and well shaped body.
His characters are also
good or he helps other in need. Nobody dislikes him. He has been living with
his brother and sister-in-law. He doesn’t mind if they ask him to do anything. It
reflects his honesty and he has no complain or quarrelsome behavior. He seems
simple and straightforward but clever as well. As I have listened his plans and
prospects he has clearly presented his future life.
He wants to go foreign
once again and wants to spend his future life in village. He has no ambition to
live in city rather he is ready to spend his life simply struggling in his own ancestral
land. He is also skillful in manual works like building construction. He is
perfect in mistri works or he has
knowledge about building walls of bricks and blocks, plaster, and so on.
He told me yesterday
that he didn’t have any work to do. I told him that a skilled man was needed like
him for construction work. He showed his interest to work so he told me to talk
to the contractor. I asked him to come with me so that I would talk to the
contractor. He also followed me when I went to the school but the contractor wasn’t
there. I called him sometimes after so that they could talk themselves. When the
contractor came I talked to him and he showed interest to call him.
I sent a man to call
him but he had gone to submit passport in the manpower agency. He met me at
evening time when I returned to my room. He told me that he would start the
work “the day after tomorrow” only. I told him to contact the contractor soon
neither he was going to hire another man. Instead he requested me to tell him
that he was going to do the work the day after tomorrow only.
It strikes about the
human nature and his/her ignorance to work. He is in the mood to fulfil his
desire only so he appeals to work the day after tomorrow. As it is said “time
and tide waits no man”. Nepalese are unable recognize “the time” rather we want
to stop it for our petty desire which is impossible. For the sake of ours, we have
the habit deferring everything. It suggests two logics: he wants to get other
opportunity first; secondly, if the first chance is missed, he wants to take
the benefit of the second one.
It reflects the true
human nature that we want to stop “time” even for our sake. This boy has
reflected the true nature of Nepalese. They want to find the best opportunity
with their intention; neither have they wanted to stop other things for their
petty purpose. Since we have habit of deferring it will affect our future. It also
suggests that we haven’t given priority for the work rather it is a secondary
matter. We don’t value the national work which can be side job for us.
I want to suggest that
we have to work duly when we have got it or the work is much valuable. The work
doesn’t wait us as it is time bounded rather we have to wait for the work or
job. Hence, we should be prompt while working neither it can run away from our
grip.
