Working Ethics
By: Prem Prasad Sigdel
Work is an important
thing in our life; or it is only the means of development of the nation. If
people work, they can get food; it helps them to make their life busy; so they
can progress in their life. Thus it contributes psychologically and physically
to a person which helps them for their all round development and it can also be
the foundation of national development.
There are different
types of work that we do in our life. Mostly, the scholars have divided work
into two types i.e. white colour and blue colour. Either white or blue, work is
necessary which needs human resources and the work is done when human resource
is active and prompt. It needs system, or commitment, or supervision to
complete any kind of work on time.
Work is other than idleness.
I have seen many persons are lazing quoting that “I don’t have work to do.” They
argue that it is the responsibility of the government to provide job to them.
It is one of the logics but they don’t think that they should create work
themselves. When they can’t think that the job is in their hand, they would
spend their time lazing around. It has made them weaker physically and
psychologically.
The work would deal with
dialectic logic which we must have the capacity to recognize what the work is.
The issue that I want to raise is that we must be ethical to perform the task
what we have got. I have seen the persons lazing when they have gone to field. They
even spend their time doing nothing throughout the day. They have taken work as
something done for others. They don’t realize that the work which they have
been given is their own work rather than the boss.
They have said that
their work is difficult in comparison to others. They don’t think that they
have come for work. Rather they try to cheat their boss only. The consequence
would be that either they would be expelled from the work, or they would lose
their own dignity. However, it is praised by the society so they have got some
courage to avoid work though they have known that the work is the only thing to
sustain their family.
The lazy persons would
compare their work with others. The persons who have taken some responsibility
of the work think that they have difficult work than others. They don’t realize
that the work what they have taken should be done in time. Today I saw that two
of the labours who have come to work in our school stay doing nothing till half
of the day pretending this or that. There was no supervisor so they stay till
evening time and started doing after 4.00pm only. It is evident that they don’t
take the responsibility of the work or they don’t have working ethics.
In Nepal I haven’t
found that any labor is responsible to their work. The supervisor should
threaten them or they shouldn’t have paid or they should have been threatened.
Unless there is no fear, they don’t work well. Neither would they spend the day
without work; rather they have the logic that they take rest.
When there is work we
know the meaning of rest but they have been taking rest throughout the day. So
the question comes that working ethics in our culture is declining. We don’t
value the work rather think that the work is sufficient. We have promoted
cheating culture instead of being busy. Those who can cheat are much more
prestigious than those who have engaged in work.
The person would like to stay without eating
rather than working diligently. The context should have been changed as soon as
possible. For that we need to make the people aware and make them realize the
importance of work. We should provide education to them first. Unless they
don’t have education, they can’t change their mind; unless they don’t change
their mind they don’t learn the ethics or the importance of work. If we can
implant such knowledge to the people, then only we can develop our county. Certainly
we need ethical or integral people for the development of the nation.
