Unwanted Social Norms
By: Prem Prasad Sigdel
Social rules, norms and
values guide all the persons who have been living in any society. We can’t
question the norms rather we should be the follower of them as it has been
structured in the society. So society is a guiding force for every person in Nepalese
society as well.
Nepalese people have
left to work these days or those who work would be rated as a sorrowful
creature in the society. Those who work in their field would be the poor man. They
wouldn’t have any exposition in the society in front of the persons who have
been earning their living from secondary means. Or those who can loot would be
respected in the society.
If we want to be an example
of worker we would be backwarded ourselves. Rather we should have known the
guffaw rather than the skills to work. If you have skill it takes years and
years to earn money and be rich. If you have guffaw, you can earn money
in-no-time either illicitly which can be a means of dignity in the society. It
is one of the formulae to be rich within short time period in our country.
I would like to present
my own example that I want to work more rather than guffaw. I always ask to
concerned personality to function rather than lip-service. So I believe in work
and I want to prove myself as one of the laborious man in the institution where
I work. I remember a Nepali proverb that we should work 10 times more to make
others work along with us. So the context would fit to me. However, single man
effort has no meaning at all.
Today I have worked 9 hours
in computer in my school. I started working from 5.30am till 2pm. I have had
knowledge of computer irrespective of the friends so I have to work much. Other
friends have been straying doing nothing rather roaming here and there. I have
been busy till nine hours and then I have to take my class even.
I thought to work even
more but I felt too much tired and stopped. I felt too much lousy at evening
time and got sleep before supper. When I took supper I felt little bit fresh
and then wrote this piece. The price of labour is too better for me because I am
going to get sound sleep at least which is one of the problems of the city
dwellers who have nothing to do throughout the day.
I evaluated the
situation in such a way that the persons who have expertise would be working
all the time whereas others are like the spectators of the drama. Those who
rated themselves as uneducated or unskilled would get relief from the burden of
work. Thus my question remains that the youths are unaware about the value of
work and skills. We should work more and develop our skills to make our future
bright. So we should effort for the change of our social context.
Neither we would be
back if we follow the guffaw culture in our society. We have been promoting the
loot or idle culture in our society. The person who would cheat others is
regarded as the best one. Is it the bravery of Gorkhali? Should we value our idleness
or labour? It needs much improvement in the social context for immediate reform.
The loot culture should be discarded to make us healthy and to contribute for
the nation through hard work.
